fussy (adj): Having very high standards about particular things
Since becoming parents, Lucy D and I have become far easier to please in many respects. My idea of the perfect sleep used to involve goosedown and several thousand threadcount, but these days simply somewhere (anywhere!) to rest my head for half an hour of silence will do. Gourmet restaurants? Try a quick-cook stir-fry followed by an early night. Rock ‘n roll, baby.
But one thing’s for sure – when you’re spending a large chunk of your day putting away piles of little clothes and washing mountains of dishes and tidying puzzle pieces, the standards are raised. And we like to follow the formula of QUALITY + JOY. Not only do good-quality items fare better and last longer, but it’s much more fun when the domestic admin is made up of beautiful, covetable things that bring you joy.
So when it comes to new treasures for the Small Ones, that’s where we now find ourselves a little, well, fussy. Whether it’s gorgeous bright printed tableware and wish-they-were-my-size wellies, or well-crafted toys that break away from the monopoly of primary coloured plastic, it’s all about making the mundane marvellous. Living with children doesn’t mean we need to lose our sense of style, after all.
So we thought it might be fun to share with you our beautiful finds, stylish ideas, new ways with old favourites and anything that makes us go ‘Ooh…’. We’d also like to introduce you to the latest new brands and say hi to some inspirational mums along the way in our Spotlight section.
To put it simply, Fussy Bird is all about Stuff We Like. And we hope you’ll like it, too.
