It’s A Girl!
Congratulations to William and Kate!
Just in case you missed it, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have had a baby girl. Huzzah! And as the cheers die down outside St Mary’s Lindo Wing, London, a chorus of cash registers can be heard across the land.
The ‘Kate effect’ (and George and his little sister) has a huge influence on retailers. Sales of Aden + Anais boomed by 300% back in 2013 when a swaddled Prince George emerged from the hospital. Already the royal Princess’s merino wool shawl has sparked a surge of interest for the family business GH Hurt & Son Ltd.
Many brands have already moved quickly, offering discounts and free delivery (ilovegorgeous) as they prepare for a surge in online shopping. Some have introduced special ‘royal’ collections including Trotters, and Rachel Riley, Blue Almonds and Dragons of Walton Street (all of which are Kate favourites). The London School of Marketing says the new baby could generate more than £300m for the UK economy. Wowsers.
For more Princesspiration, we reckon Kate could try Mafana, Le Petites Abeilles, Cath Kidston or Marie-Chantal. And if she wanted to be a little more daring, we heartily recommend she deck out the new bubba in the likes of Greenberry Kids, Petit Tribe, No Added Sugar or Elfie.
Personally, we’d quite like to see Kate’s thrifty side and see a few of Prince George’s old outfits recycled – nothing wrong with borrowing from the boys.
