‘PLEASE LOOK AFTER THIS BEAR. THANK YOU’
1 February 2015
So who knew that the friendly, optimistic little bear, Paddington, had such a tragic background? Orphaned in an earthquake in deepest darkest Peru, he arrives in London after stowing away in a lifeboat when his Aunt Lucy goes to live in a home *sob*. But plucky Pads finds a new home and plenty of adventures along the way. And perhaps that is the appeal – he’s eccentric, kind, resilient and stands up for what he believes in, trying to do the right thing.
And he’s not just for the kids. The Paddington Collective has a fabulous range of vintage collectable and delectable Paddingtons (made by the original manufacturers Gabrielle Designs), all just looking for a family to adopt them. I’m quite tempted by this cheeky chappy (but with that price tag little hands won’t get anywhere near him!).
If you need any more inspiration, pack your marmalade sandwiches and get to the Museum of London, which has a free exhibition all about the lovable bear (now extended to 8 March 2015).
